Mission, history and staff
Our mission
“Working for the mobilization, engagement, routing and retention of presential and virtual volunteers for non-profit organizations, promoting capacitation for volunteers and NPO’s enabling their digital inclusion, and in this manner spread the volunteering culture among Catarinenses through the use of the www.voluntarios.org.br Portal”
Our History
After a survey that was carried out throughout the country, where the volunteering potential of Brazilian’s was measured, the Solidarity Community Council decided to encourage the creation of Volunteering Centers throughout the national territory.
When the survey was concluded, a group of the Catarinense community began, in 1997, the development of studies that culminated in the creation of the Volunteers in Action Institute - Santa Catarina (IVA / SC).
The main goal of IVA/ SC was to spread the culture of volunteerism and get more and more people to do voluntary work in Florianopolis and in Santa Catarina. Therefore, the project had initially relied with local non-profit organizations partnerships: we raised the scenario of volunteer work at that time, the potential institutions for membership, the volunteering opportunities, and so on.
Thus, the IVA was created - a non-governmental non-profit organization that, through partnerships, working in brokering, recruitment and training of volunteers and organizations.
Now, 10 years later, we succeeded in bringing volunteers from Florianopolis and throughout the state of Santa Catarina to NGO’s, but we reformulated our practice to adequate the services to this new moment we’re living now - where digital communication is a reality and the need for everyone to be involved in voluntary causes becomes more pressing.
So now in 2008, we launch the On-line Volunteers Portal to support not only the region of Florianopolis, but the entire state of Santa Catarina. The on-line voluntering allows the participation of everyone, even those who have little or practically no free time.
Besides, we have great opportunities for at home volunteering. From now on, IVA/SC’s story will be written 24 hours a day, seven days a week, because anyone can be a voluntary now, at any moment, from their own home or from work.
Now organizations will have more visibility and can receive volunteers from around the world, in the morning, afternoon or evening. And the volunteer can do voluntary work online, in whatever area they’re more comfortable with - reviewing or translating texts, creating graphic material, cooking recipes, financial planning ... Anyway, whichever way you can or want to help, we will have a registered organization, ready to receive anyone is willing to volunteer.
